Did you know that in NSW, it is illegal to sell vapes (e-cigarettes) outside of a pharmacy setting?
Vapes may only be supplied by authorised pharmacies. This means the sale of vapes in convenience stores, tobacconists or other retail outlets is illegal.
Understanding the new laws is an important step in reducing the availability of illegal, harmful products in the community.
Vaping products are designed to appeal to young people, with flavours, bright packaging and marketing that can make them appear harmless. These tactics increase the likelihood that young people experiment with vaping and become dependent at an early age and can mask the risks of nicotine addiction.
Leanne Andrew, Health Promotion Officer for Central Coast Health says, “Information provided by community members strengthens ongoing investigations and helps reduce the availability of illegal vapes across the region. This helps protect our children and young people from the harms of vapes and nicotine addiction and creates healthier environments for everyone to enjoy.”
Anyone who suspects a business may be selling illegal tobacco or vaping products, or continuing to operate despite a closure order can make an anonymous report online via the NSW Health reporting portal: Report non-compliance with tobacco and vaping product laws in NSW
