Balance
Good balance is important to help you get around, carry out daily activities and live independently.
Loss of balance is a concern not only as it raises the risk of falls, but the fear of falling often results in isolation, less physical activity and weaker muscles, resulting in the potential for more falls.
Activities good for improving balance include Tai Chi, group exercises, dancing, yoga, Pilates and bowls.
Footwear
Looking after our feet is vital in helping us maintain an active lifestyle. Foot problems and foot pain are not a natural part of ageing. Take simple steps to ensure foot problems or ill-fitting shoes don’t trip you up.
When choosing the right shoes ask advice from your podiatrist, physiotherapist or occupational therapist, and remember, shoes should fit firmly and have a non-slip sole.
Check out the below resources to support your balance and help you choose the right footwear to help you put your best foot forward.
