-Does fruit juice count as fruit in the 2 week Challenge? Yes, but only one serve per day. It is easy to believe that fruit juice is a healthy drink, BUT Fruit juice contains sugars found naturally in fresh fruits, which become very concentrated when made into juice. Fruit juice lacks the fibre that is found in whole fruit. A piece of fruit is a better choice than juice. For Q4: Live Outside the Box, after you have had 125ml (1/2 cup), juice has to be counted as an “Extra” food. Click here to find more info on 'extras'
-What if I do 40 minutes of exercise? How many points does that get me in the 2 week Challenge? When counting up physical activity, round off to the nearest 15 minutes for scoring: e.g. - 35 minutes round to 30, 40 minutes round to 45. Click here to find more info on Staying Active
- Does fruit jam (e.g. strawberry jam) count as fruit? No! Sugar is the biggest ingredient by weight in jam, not making it a good source of fruit.
- How do I count steps for things like swimming and cycling? Allow 1000 steps for each ten minutes of activity you do that is moderate intensity - allow proportionally more for higher intensity. Click here to find more info on counting steps.
-Is tomato a fruit or a vegetable?
edible stems, leaves, and roots of the plant. Nutritionally, tomatoes are regarded as a vegetable, and you should count tomato as a vegetable in the Q4 2-week Challenge. Click here for ideas on how to eat more vegies and legumes.
-Which vegetable helps you see in the dark? Carrots are amongst a group of vegetables that are good sources of Vitamin A. Vitamin A is essential for healthy eyes. In areas of the world where there is malnutrition, individuals who do not eat enough vitamin A suffer significant visual impairment.
-Why don’t I need to count things like meat, dairy and bread for Q4? Aren’t they healthy too? Q4: Live Outside the Box looks at some important lifestyle factors that affect healthy weight. The idea is to have a think about; 1. Energy Output - time spent being active, time spent in front of the TV or computer. 2. Energy input/eating habits - fruit and veggie intake, "extra" foods, and having a healthy breakfast. It is not designed to assess your diet, but rather to make you aware and think about these factors.
